ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It looks as if a second MAX Transit fixed bus route through Zeeland could become reality this summer.
Zeeland City Manager Tim Klunder is recommending to his City Council during tonight’s biweekly business meeting to approve plans for an additional route that would include stops at Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital, the Holland Hospital Urgent Care center off of 84th Avenue and other locations not currently on the MAX fixed system. The biggest concerns were that the new stops didn’t disrupt service to the current stops and that neighboring Zeeland Township, which is currently not a member of the Macatawa Area Express Authority that governs the MAX system, help defray some of the costs of the new route, since it would go into parts of its jurisdiction. Both of those concerns have apparently been addressed to the satisfaction of all involved, and Klunder believes that this new route would likely go into effect by this August.
Also during tonight’s meeting, the City Manager is recommending that Council not oppose the renewal applications to the state Liquor Control Commission for the six retail establishments that currently serve alcohol by the glass and/or the bottle in Zeeland. This comes after inspections and background checks turned up no outstanding violations.
Tonight’s 7 PM business meeting in Zeeland City Hall comes after a 5:30 PM study session. A link to supporting documents, which includes the proposed route for the new bus service, is here.
