ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – About 20 Consumers Energy customers east of Holland were without power for several hours yesterday afternoon, apparently due to a truck that was hauling more than it could handle.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, deputies were dispatched to Adams Street east of 88th Avenue just before 3 PM on a report of downed power lines. It was determined that a “large” 10-axle refuse hauler, owned by Hamilton-based Redline Excavation and carrying a large tree and branches that extended out of the carrier, struck lines that affected five separate blocks, extending east along Adams to around 24th Avenue south of Hudsonville, where deputies halted the truck, driven by 23-year-old Taylor Hobby of West Olive.
Adams Street was closed until the early evening hours in order to allow utility workers to repair the damage and restore power. There were no injuries, and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier unit is working with the Sheriff’s Department in investigating the incident.
