ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 45-year-old New Mexico woman spent part of her weekend on a hospital bed following a two-vehicle crash on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Jennifer Earnest of Truth or Consequences was driving a 1981 Ford van northbound on M-231 around 7:30 PM when she passed Lincoln Street. “She was attempting to make a U-turn to go back south when the vehicle stalled and her lights also became inoperable,” Wildfong explained. “Rachel Balcom was driving a 2010 Chevy Cobalt north on M-231 and did not see the disabled van that was blocking both lanes of M-231.”
The resulting crash landed Earnest in an undisclosed medical facility for treatment of minor injuries, while Balcom, a 34-year-old Muskegon woman was unhurt. Wildfong added that it took almost an hour to reopen the highway following the crash, which remains under investigation.
