OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A West Olive man spent the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail after a brief standoff with authorities on Friday afternoon.
According to Sheriff’s Detective Captain Mark Bennett, the suspect, who had threatened family members and case workers on Thursday night over a child custody issue, was pulled over on 120th Avenue near Polk Street around 2 PM. “The suspect was armed with several different weapons, however there were no firearms, and a standoff then ensued,” Bennett said. “After speaking with a Sheriff’s Office negotiator for about 30 minutes, the suspect surrendered peacefully to authorities and the 31-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with making threats of terrorism and being an habitual offender.”
Nobody was harmed, the area was blocked off for about an hour, and the suspect awaits an arraignment in Holland District Court. The case remains open, and tips to Silent Observer are still welcome.
