GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A grant is in hand to build up a non-motorized path through Ottawa County.
The county’s Parks Foundation has received a two million-dollar gift from the Bill and Bea Idema Foundation for the development of the Grand River Greenway. This foundational grant will go towards developing the central feature of the greenway, a nature trail from Millenium Park just west of Grand Rapids to Grand Haven State Park, with the path to be named the Idema Explorers Trail in honor of the donors.
The Grand River Greenway Campaign is looking to raise a total of 7.2 million dollars to help acquire and develop 700 acres of land and 27 miles of trails along or near the River over a five-year period. The overall cost of the project is 21 million dollars, with the campaign looking to secure gifts in order to help in leveraging “anticipated” public funding.
