ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Allendale children were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in their hometown last evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, 39-year-old James Lewis of Allendale was driving his vehicle westbound on Pierce Street just before 6 PM when he attempted to stop for a stop sign at 52nd Avenue. However, due to icy road conditions at the time, Lewis’ vehicle skidded into the intersection and into the path of a northbound vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Nolan Pelkey of Grand Haven.
Lewis and his 37-year-old wife Julie, seated in the front seat, escaped injury, but their two children seated in the back – eight-year-old Emeleigh and three-year-old Savannah – were taken to DeVos Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening ailments. Pelkey was also unhurt.
Wildfong said that all involved were either buckled up or properly restrained in child car seats as the crash remains under investigation.
