GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The normal routine of a school day was disrupted by a car-bus crash in front of Grand Haven High School on Wednesday morning.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, an unnamed 16-year-old GHHS student from West Olive attempted to turn left from Ferris Street into the school’s parking lot around 7:15 AM. He later claimed to deputies that he “didn’t see” an oncoming school bus with 32 students on board bearing down on him from the opposite direction, causing the bus to broadside his vehicle.
The student, along with the bus driver, 62-year-old Barbara Kay VanHall of Spring Lake, and the students on the bus all escaped injury. The student was ticketed for failing to yield right of way as the crash remains under investigation.
