GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 24-year-old Ohio man found himself in trouble with the law at the Ottawa-Kent county line overnight and couldn’t flee from it.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jay Douglas, a deputy had pulled over an SUV near the junction of Chicago Drive and Main Avenue in Jenison around 11:30 PM for a perceived equipment violation, but after stopping, the SUV sped off to the east towards Grandville. The deputy had begun to chase the vehicle, but as he stopped his pursuit after 30 seconds or so, the SUV suddenly lost control, veered to its left, clipped a building, a sign and several flower beds, flipped over and landed in a parking lot.
The lone motorist in the vehicle was arrested without further incident, and after a brief stop at an unnamed hospital to check for any injuries, which there were none, the suspect was taken to the Ottawa County Jail, where he awaits arraignment in Hudsonville District Court on fleeing and eluding, operating while intoxicated and possession of a stolen vehicle. The case remains under investigation.
