UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – A full slate of eight girls/boys doubleheaders involving all 20 of the varsity high school basketball teams along the Lakeshore is on tap this evening.
We’ll spotlight the boys’ game between West Ottawa and visiting Grandville, with Greg Chandler describing the action, starting around 7:25 PM on 1450 WHTC and the New 99.7 FM.
Other twin-bills include: Holland at Zeeland West, Holland Christian versus Byron Center at DeVos Fieldhouse; Hamilton at Zeeland East; Saugatuck at Coloma; Fennville hosting Lawton; Black River entertaining Tri-unity Christian; and Calvary welcoming Algoma Christian to Holland Christian High.

Grand Valley State split a hoops doubleheader with visiting Ashland last night. The undefeated and top-ranked Eagles won the women’s opener in overtime, 96-90, thanks to 27 points from Laina Snyder, 25 from Jodi Johnson and 24 from Renee Stimpert. Jake Van Tubbergen tossed in 18 points with 12 rebounds as the Lakers captured the men’s nightcap, 64-57. GVSU is home to Tiffin in another round ball twin bill tomorrow afternoon at the Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.
In state major-college basketball this evening, Detroit visits Youngstown State and Oakland travels to Cleveland State.

Steven Stamkos scored twice, while Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the visiting Red Wings last night, 4-1. Detroit takes on the Predators in Nashville tomorrow evening, with broadcast time at 7:40 PM on 1450 WHTC and the New 99.7 FM.
Adam Henrique’s goal in the ninth minute of the third period broke a 2-2 tie and enabled the visiting Anaheim Ducks to edge the Blackhawks last night, 3-2. Chicago is home to the Washington Capitals at the United Center tomorrow evening.

Matt Lorito broke a scoreless tie with a goal 12 minutes into the second period, and Jared Coreau made that slim margin stand up with a 28-save performance, as the Grand Rapids Griffins got past the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg last night, 1-0. The two teams have a rematch at the Bell MTS Place tomorrow evening.
