WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – As the shock of Wednesday’s mass shooting at a south Florida high school recedes, the call for stricter gun control legislation on all levels of government that usually comes after such incidents will ramp up.
Congressman Bill Huizenga believes that any such knee-jerk solution won’t solve the problem. In the weekly interview on “WHTC Morning News,” the fourth-term Zeeland Republican said, “We have to be clear-headed and proactive, to take a look at what we can do to beef up our mental health system, how do we make sure that people with these kinds of issues have restricted access to weapons; what are the common sense things that we can do to address some of these things, yet at the same time realize that evil exists.”
Huizenga added that, “There are some who believe that the answer is banning guns, all guns. That is not a solution, in my mind, that is going to be successful, yet we can’t give up trying to address those things.”
