HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A three-vehicle pileup on Holland’s North Side during yesterday afternoon’s commute hospitalized two adults and three children.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jay Douglas was among the first responders at the scene of Lakewood Boulevard and North Park Drive, west of US-31, around 4:45 PM. He said that Maria Garcia-Lopez, driving eastbound, while attempting a left turn, drove her car in the path of a westbound minivan, driven by Allen Bailey. The subsequent collision caused the Bailey vehicle to veer into the stopped vehicle of Dorothy DeYoung.
One child seated in the back seat of Garcia-Lopez’ vehicle was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in critical condition, while another child, along with the 44-year-old Garcia-Lopez of Holland, the 75-year-old Bailey of Charlevoix and a child in his vehicle, were all taken to Holland Hospital in stable condition for treatment of their injuries. The 58-year-old DeYoung of Holland was not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
