HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Doug Zylstra took to social media Monday to announce he’d filed to run for Ottawa County Commission.
“Today, I filed to run again for the County Commissioner for the Third District representing Holland,” he wrote on Facebook. “I am running to be strong advocate for Holland residents to the County board.”
Zylstra said his focus would be in the following areas: health, environment, taxes, housing, jobs and wages for City of Holland residents.
He told WHTC Monday evening (listen to the podcast) that he’s not necessarily running against Don Disselkoen, who he challenged in 2014 and 2016. Disselkoen won handily in 2014, but in 2016 edged into the win with just 108 votes — just over 1 percent.
Disselkoen’s campaign website has not been updated to reflect any current campaign plans.
Zylstra said he’ll draw from his experience on the county’s planning commission and focus on “pursuing a regional asset plan that the county could get on board, as well as cities and townships in the area — supporting regional assets in a regional way.”
Ottawa County candidates must file their paperwork by 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, to get on this year’s ballot.
Write-in candidates have until 4 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at 4:00 PM. to submit a Write-In Candidate Declaration of Intent form in order to be elected.
