HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Speed and alcohol may be factors in a fatal crash on Holland’s River Avenue Sunday evening, according to a Holland Public Safety Department statement emailed to media on Monday morning.
Emergency responders, called for help just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, found a 1996 Honda Civic had collided with a pole near the River Avenue curve at First Street.
The two occupants, Janelle Ortega, 21, and William Montano, 34, both of Holland were pinned in.Montano was declared dead at the scene. Ortega, rushed to Holland Hospital, was taken to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, where she is listed in critical condition, according to police.
River Avenue was closed at First Street for approximately three hours for the crash investigation and clean-up. Holland police officers were assisted by AMR Ambulance and Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies.
