HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – 700 volunteers will be working in the community today for Greater Ottawa County United Way’s annual Day of Caring.
Teams from area businesses will work on projects like yard work, landscaping, painting, removing invasive species, sorting, cleaning and more.
Director of Volunteerism Shannon LaHaie spoke at a media luncheon Wednesday and says the State of Michigan values the hours of volunteerism at $22.96 per hour.
“I always love to say that Ottawa County is very uinique in the way that sometimes I struggle to find projects for our volunteers. We have more volunteers than we know what to do with. And we love that and I don’t want that to ever ever end. So I love where I live and I love all the people who give back here in Ottawa County.
LaHaie went on to talk about how successful the Stuff the Bus campaign was this year as well.
Later today, the 2017-2018 annual campaign will kick off during the Day of Caring lunch at Camp Geneva. United Way will share their campaign goal, give away prizes and a free lunch will be provided by A.D. Bos Vending Services, Inc. and Tyson Foods.
