ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Grand Valley State University students are fighting back against sexual assaults on campus.
A report of a sexual assault over the weekend prompted students to hold a rally on campus Tuesday. Students were asked to take a pledge that they would report anything suspicious.
Grand Valley State University junior Michelle Roldan says it’s important for students to get in front of the issue of sexual assault on campus and speak out.
“It’s not just a myth. It’s not something that happens every once and a while. It’s very common. Some of my team here is made up of survivors themselves.”
Last year GVSU had four sexual assaults just off campus within a month’s time. It resulted in more street lights around that area near the university and increased security.
University officials say the latest incident is being investigated as a case of inappropriate touching.
