SPRING LAKE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 26-year-old Muskegon man was killed in a two-vehicle rollover crash Friday afternoon, September 8 in Spring Lake Township.
The Ottawa County Sheriff Office says the crash occurred Friday, September 8, on southbound US-31 and one quarter mile north of Taft Street at 5:38 p.m. Sgt. Brian Buter says 29-year-old Austin Miller was driving a Chevrolet Silverado in the right lane going to take the Van Wagoner exit when he looked in his mirror and saw a Dodge just seconds before it hit him. Witnesses say the truck driven by Zachary Hall was being driven at a high rate of speed and struck a guardrail. The truck then bounced off and hit the truck driven by Miller.
This contact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and rollover several times with Hall’s vehicle striking a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Miller vehicle rolled several times coming to rest against the building of the Herman Miller plant. Austin Miller was pinned in his vehicle and extricated by Spring Lake Township Fire Rescue. His passenger 27-year-old Jacqueline Miller of Muskegon was able to crawl out of the vehicle. Both were transported to Mercy Hospital in Spring Lake with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
