HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Fire safety along the Lakeshore and across the country will be spotlighted this week.
Ahead of National Fire Prevention Week that begins on Sunday, the 35th annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff Parade in downtown Holland is this evening. Beginning at 7 PM, fire trucks and other apparatus from the Holland Department of Public Safety and neighboring departments will travel westbound on 8th Street from College Avenue to the parking lots adjacent to the 8th Street Marketplace past Pine Avenue, where the machines will be parked for display and firefighting personnel will be on hand to answer questions from the public. All activities are free.
The national theme for this week is “every second counts, plan two ways out,” and this effort is held in conjunction with the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of October 10, 1871, one of several massive blazes that day that struck other cities including Holland.
