WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The weekend arrests of a 48-year-old man and his 16-year-old accomplice may have stopped a burglary spree that included the apparent, high-profile torching of a Holland Township business earlier this month.
While the two yet-to-be-named suspects await arraignment, detectives and the county prosecutor’s office continue to go over up to 12 cases of burglary reported, most in the Holland-Zeeland area, between October 22nd and when the pair were arrested on Friday after breaking into the Beechwood Cleaners off of Douglas Avenue. This includes the fire that totaled the Graphix Sign and Embroidery building off of Lakewood Boulevard a week ago.
Sheriff’s Detective Captain Mark Bennett says that the proverbial book may be thrown at the pair. “The 48-year-old has an extensive criminal history,” he explained, “and is on parole for similar incidents and offenses. The 16-year-old is being held in the youth home on two counts, and additional charges will be levied. The prosecutor’s office is also moving to have the 16-year-old waived out to Circuit Court for adjudication of his crimes as an adult.”
Tips to the Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer are still welcome.
