HOLLAND TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 24-year-old Holland Township man has died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Holland Township.
Deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office say Rafael Alvarez died at the scene of the crash at 136th Avenue and Liberty. Sgt. Matt Wilfong says the crash occurred around 1:09 a.m on Sunday, November 19. There were no witnesses to the crash, but a caller to the Sheriff’s Office had heard it and called Ottawa County Dispatch.
Alvarez’s 2005 Chevy Malibu was northbound on 136th Avenue when it left the roadway on the west side of the road. The vehicle then struck a mailbox, utility pole and a tree. Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene. His front seat passenger 19-year-old Lorena Silva-Poblano of Wyoming who was wearing a seatbelt was seriously injured and transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.
Park Township Emergency Unit and Holland Township Fire Rescue assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the the crash which remains under investigation.
