HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Community Action House of Holland is providing Thanksgiving Baskets for those in need and now with an unexpected amount of demand this year, they are calling on the community to donate turkeys.
Right now they have 700 families signed up which represents about 2,000 people which is far greater than they had anticipated. The baskets include a full-size turkey and fixings for families to prepare at home says David Lee, Communications Specialist for Community Action House.
“A 9-11 pound turkey would be ideal. Anything smaller we’d probably have to give the families two turkeys depending on their family size. We have family sizes ranging from two people all the way up to twelve. ” Community Action House’s annual Thanksgiving Basket tradition is part of a larger program that aims to relieve the effects of food insecurity and hunger. Monthly Food Distribution happens 12 times a year, and provided more than 4,000 people with food last year, an increase of 20% over the prior year.
Baskets are available to those residing within zip codes 49423, 49424, 49460 with proof of identification and address. Baskets will be distributed at their office located at 345 W 14th St. on Monday and Tuesday, November 20th and 21st from 8:30 -5:00 p.m.
