GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The city of Grand Haven is the latest city where “it’s okay to be white” signs have been found.
Grand Haven Public Safety officials received a report Monday morning, November 13, at 10:09 a.m. of signs posted on trees and telephone poles on Leggat Street. A caller and other neighbors reported more signs being posted in town affixed to several trees and telephone poles in the space between the sidewalk and street.
The signs or flyers had the statement “IT’S OKAY TO BE WHITE” printed on an approximate 4.25” X 11” piece of paper. It is a violation of city ordinance to place or attach signs to trees and utility poles in the City street right-of-way without permission from the Community Affairs Manager.
In a Facebook post, Director of Public Safety Jeff Hawke says that in other communities, similar signs have contained links to a white supremacist blog. This was not the case with the flyers in Grand Haven. Hawke said that everyone is welcome in Grand Haven and there’s no room for hatred
