HOLLAND TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies are recovering from minor injuries in a crash while on patrol on Saturday, November 11.
The crash involved a Sheriff patrol vehicle and another vehicle according to Sheriff Steve Kempker. The crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 112th Avenue and East Lakewood Boulevard in Holland Township.
Witnesses reported the driver of the other vehicle caused the accident by running a red light and hitting the cruiser while it was making a legal left turn. Two Sheriff deputies passenger Deputy Patrick Gedeon and Deputy Travis Schippers who was driving the cruiser sustained injuries that were not life threatening, Holland Township Fire Dept was on scene and assisted with the extrication of the deputy who was unable to get out of the vehicle due to the vehicle being heavily damaged on the passenger side.
Both deputies were transported, treated and released from a local hospital while the other vehicle’s driver and passengers were not injured.
The Holland Department of Public Safety is handling the investigating of the traffic crash upon the request of Sheriff Steve Kempker.
