HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Holland Area Veterans Council will present their annual Veterans Day Program at The Commons of Evergreen on Saturday, November 11.
The program is free and will feature the Holland American Legion Band, Michigan’s Vietnam Wall and Randall Vande Water will share the history of Veterans Day in Holland.
The Michigan Vietnam Wall is a memorial for the 2,648 men and woman who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War. It’s a 28-foot-long memorial provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #73 in Holland.
Roger Jansen is on the Veterans Day committee and says most of the names on the Michigan Vietnam Wall have a book with a bio of where they came from and when they lost their life.
“We’ve been at war for many years and our armed forces now is 100% volunteer, there is no draft. I encourage the young people who are in the service to come on down and see what it’s all about. We often look around at these programs and we see very very few veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. I’d appreciate it if they would show up.”
The Veterans Day Program will be held in the auditorium of Evergreen Commons at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Evergreen Commons is located at 480 State St in Holland.
