WASHINGTON, DC (WHTC) – A Ludington student’s art work will hang in the nation’s capital for a year as part of a nationwide high school art competition.
The Congressional Art competition is a sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC.
This year it’s the second time Ludington High School student Ruby Henrickson has won. Her piece “Nostalgia” will be hung in the U.S. Capital with other winning pieces from each congressional districts across the country.
Zeeland Congressman Bill Huizenga was on hand to congratulate Henrickson on her win at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum in Grand Haven.
“It is clear that Ruby has continued to hone her skills and crafted another incredible work of art. Ruby has been a great representative for young artists across West Michigan and I look forward to thousands of U.S. Capitol visitors viewing ‘Nostalgia’ first-hand.”
This year’s runner up was Kayli Holmes from Fremont High School Kayli’s piece “Reflecting on Resonance” will hang in Congressman Huizenga’s Grandville Office. A student at Calvary Christian in Fruitport Allyson Richards, took third place with her work “Through the Mind of the Veteran.” Allyson’s work will also be displayed in Congressman Huizenga’s Office in Grandville.
70 pieces of art were submitted by high school students across the Second Congressional District. The winners were selected by a panel of local art professionals.
