OLIVE TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 26-year-old Muskegon woman is in serious condition after a crash on US-31 that involved a semi and another vehicle closing both northbound and southbound US-31 for hours.
Sgt. Eric Westveer with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says at 3:49 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, deputies were dispatched to the scene at US-31 and Bingham Street in Olive Township.
Investigation shows that a tan 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by Tonika Williams was in the left lane on northbound US-31 when an unknown blue pickup truck was driving next to her in the right hand lane. The blue pickup abruptly changed lanes into Tonika’s lane and forced her off the roadway.
Upon leaving the roadway, Tonika lost control, went through the median and went into the southbound travel lanes of US-31. Tonika then struck a 2011 frieightliner semi with a loaded trailer driven by 50 year-old Darin Cook of Gladwin. Her vehicle then went under the trailer portiion of the semi resulting in the semi and the attached trailer to roll over on it’s right side, losing it’s load of 77,000 Ball Park Frank hotdogs. Tonika’s vehicle was then pushed back through the median and came rest in the northbound lanes of US-31.
Both were transported to Holland Hospital with Tanika Williams in serious condition and Darin Cook in fair condition.
