HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – The Thursday morning commute east of Holland was bogged down by a crash involving a semi hauling turkeys.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse, Emory Hyder was driving his rig northbound on 96th Avenue just before 5 AM, looking to get onto the nearby I-196 freeway at the Adams Street entrance. “As Mr. Hyder was attemping to make a left turn onto Adams Street, he was unable to negotiate the turn safely, which resulted in the semi and trailer to overturn, spilling the crates full of turkeys,” Converse explained.
The 45-year-old Spring Lake man, who was buckled up at the time, escaped injury. It took crews more than four and a half hours to clean up the scene, blocking westbound Adams Street traffic as a result.
The crash remains under investigation.
