HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Center for Women in Transition in Holland provides crisis and supportive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
It’s the 25th anniversary of their signature event, “Reach For The Stars Gala.” The event raises $150,000 annually for the Center. Every year in Ottawa and Allegan County the Center provides services to more then 3,000 women, men and children.
Among the services provided are emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, transitional housing, legal advocacy, sexual assault nurse examinations and trauma-informed therapy. The Center working in the community with violence prevention work and also has a partnership with local schools districts and it’s Girls on the Run program.
This year’s keynote speaker at the Reach for the Stars Gala is Brooke Axtell, a survivor of human trafficking as a child. She will share her personal story of survival and healing. Axtell recently joined President Barack Obama onstage at the 2015 Grammy Awards, performing a spoken-word piece about the devastating effects of domestic violence.
The annual Reach for the Stars Gala is Thursday, April 20 at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville. Tickets may be purchased online and are $100.00 if purchased before March 31 or $125.00 after that date.
