HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The High Wind Warning hasn’t stopped people from heading to area beaches to get a look at the waves.
Sgt. Dean DeVries of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Marine Division says this morning waves were over 6-feet high and they expect them to get higher as the day goes on. A Gale warning is in effect until 7 p.m. on Lake Michigan.
“The obvious comments we can make at this time is that we really need people to stay away from the channel and piers since water is so high. The waves are breaking over the seawalls in Holland and Grand Haven. The winds will get higher this afternoon and that will reflect on the big lake too.”
The Sheriff’s Office is getting ready for boater safety classes and boat inspections as boating season nears. Over a half a dozen boats are in storage that they are getting ready to put into the water. The Sheriff’s first official function will be the Lubber’s Cup the weekend of April 9 in Spring Lake.
