HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 41-year-old Holland man will find out on April 13th if he will go to trial on charges stemming from the traffic-related death of a 65-year-old Zeeland grandmother just after New Year’s Day.
Holland District Court Judge Brad Knoll set the date for Cameron Burrows’ preliminary hearing on counts of reckless driving causing death, reckless driving causing serious injury, and being a four-time habitual offender. Witnesses say that he drove his pick up truck through a stop light on eastbound Business-196 on January 3rd and broadsided a car going northbound on 104th Avenue, killing the driver Sandra DeBoer and injuring her 10-year-old grandson who was a front-seat passenger.
The new date was requested by a new attorney for the defendant in order to properly prepare for the case. Burrows, who could get at least 15 years in prison if convicted of these charges, is free on five thousand dollars bond.
