UNDATED (WHTC) – The high school boys’ basketball regular season ended along the Lakeshore last night with two of the seven local schools earning victories.
Saugatuck snapped a five-game hex that arch-rival Fennville had over it as the Indians upended the visiting Blackhawks, 61-53, while West Ottawa won at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, 68-54. Other results: Covenant Christian 54, Holland Christian 39; Mona Shores 66, Zeeland East 64; Kelloggsville 78, Hamilton 56; and West Michigan Aviation 56, Black River 37.
The state high school boys’ basketball tournament begins on Monday, with the Grandville at West Ottawa game airing at 6:40 PM on 1450 WHTC, and coverage of the Wyoming at Zeeland East contest starting at that same time on the Lakeshore’s 92.7 The Van.

At least one and perhaps two Lakeshore teams will earn district titles in the state high school girls’ basketball tournament this evening. Holland Christian takes on Hamilton in a Class B contest at Allendale, while Calvary meets Tri-Unity Christian at Zion Christian.

Hope College’s NCAA Division III basketball tournament quests begin tonight. The Flying Dutch meet Wisconsin-Whitewater at Thomas More College in suburban Cincinnati. Greg Chandler’s coverage begins at 4:40 PM on 1450 WHTC. Meanwhile, the Flying Dutchmen entertain Wisconsin-Oshkosh at DeVos Fieldhouse, with Mike Coleman and Dave Van Noord describing the action at 7:10 PM on the Lakeshore’s 92.7 The Van.
In state major-college basketball this evening: Central Michigan is at Western Michigan; Toledo is at Eastern Michigan; and Milwaukee plays the University of Detroit at Calihan Hall.

Exhibition baseball yesterday saw the Tigers lose to Pittsburgh, 11-1; the Cubs fall to both Cincinnati, 6-2, and to Arizona, 3-1; and the White Sox be defeated by San Francisco, 5-4. Today, the Tigers play Tampa Bay, the Cubs meet Cincinnati, and the White Sox go up against San Diego.
