HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – Two drivers who were attempting to beat a red light at an intersection on Holland’s North Side ended up colliding, with the result of a four-year-old boy and his mother spending the rest of Friday on Holland Hospital beds.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse, 65-year-old Domingo Ramirez was driving westbound on Riley Street and was attempting to turn left onto 136th Avenue around 2:30 PM. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Cody Finnegan of Muskegon was driving his minivan eastbound, looking to go straight through the intersection. As the light turned yellow, Ramirez assumed that Finnegan was going to slow down and started to make his turn, but collided with the side of the younger man’s vehicle. Upon impact, the minivan veered to the right and into a utility pole at the corner, causing enough damage to necessitate its replacement by Holland BPW crews.
Finnegan’s 24-year-old wife Ashley suffered minor injuries, while their four-year-old son was hospitalized in serious and stable consdition. The two drivers, along with two children in the Ramirez vehicle and a seven-month-old girl in the Finnegan minivan, were not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
