GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 15-year-old Wyoming teenager is in critical condition after he was pulled from an Ottawa County Lake.
Ottawa County Sheriff Deputies were called to the scene at the 8th Avenue Park in the 7000 block of 8th Avenue on Saturday, June 17, at around 4:08 p.m. Kaivon Eskew was struggling to swim in the water after retrieving a ball in the swim area of the park. He went out to the edge of the swim area where he encountered a drop off and began to struggle to swim. Shortly after he was then seen going under the water.
Sgt. Eric Westveer says after eight minutes, Kaivon was located in 6 to 8 feet of water, approximately 30-40 feet from the shoreline. He was removed by on-scene unites and bystanders at which time lifesaving efforts were immediately started by paramedics from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office EMS unit and with assistance from the Georgetown Township Fire Rescue.
Kaivon was transported to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids by Life EMS and is currently listed in critical condition.
