THERESA, NY (WHTC-AM/FM) – The attorney who is defending the Zeeland native who allegedly killed his wife and a NY State Trooper has released a statement blaming the tragedy on the U.S. military.
Canton, NY attorney Ed Narrow told WWNY-TV on Tuesday that “Had the military maybe properly addressed the needs of Sgt. [Justin] Walters, this tragedy could’ve been avoided.”
The 32-year-old soldier, who graduated from Zeeland High School, was stationed at Fort Drum in New York after serving two combat tours in Afghanistan.
Walters’ mother told Wood TV 8 that he had been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was receiving treatment.
Walters is being charged with the first degree murder of New York State Trooper Joel Davis and the second degree murder of his wife, Nichole. He also allegedly shot and injured Rebecca Finkle, who is believed to be a friend of his wife.
