HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As the first day of school approaches in just five short weeks, Holland Public Schools want to remind families that the Summer Reading Club is still going strong!
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening through August 10th, HPS staff will be heading outside to read books with students from up to grade 7 and their families. Each student will receive a free age-appropriate book for attending the club, as well as some Hudsonville ice cream treats.
Brian Davis, Superintendent of HPS, says that it’s important for students to continue to read throughout the summer. “Reading just six books over the summer can assist students in maintaining the reading growth the year prior,” he said. “To overuse an old cliche: ‘reading is fundamental,’ It IS so fundamental to continue that reading growth.”
On Tuesdays, the Summer Reading Club will be hosted on the front lawns of Jefferson and Holland East Middle School. The Thursday club will be located in front of Holland West Middle, Heights Elementary, and Holland Language Academy. The program is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
