Congressmen Bill Huizenga congratulated Chief Bill Olney on his retirement and thanked him for his years of service as Chief of Zeeland Police during a U.S House of Representatives meeting today.
“Chief Olney has dedicated his career to providing the highest quality law enforcement service and professionalism to the residents of Zeeland,” the Congressman said. “His relentless work in our community and dedication is clearly reflected by the numerous accomplishments he has received over his career including serving on the West Michigan Criminal Justice Training Consortium, Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and Stop Child Abuse and Neglect Council.”
After receiving a criminal justice degree from Madonna College, Chief Olney began his law enforcement career as a trooper for the Michigan State Police, where he retired after 25 years. From there he took the Chief of Police position at the Zeeland Police Department and will retire from that role on July 14.
Congressman Huizenga also mentioned that as a lifelong Detroit Lions and Michigan State Spartans fan, Olney was sure to enjoy retirement with his wife, Kathryn, his children Shannon and Matt, and some football in the near future.
