SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – What could have been a horrendous incident north of Spring Lake turned out for the better, in part to the use of life jackets.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jay Douglas, a 16-year-old Grand Haven boy and a 15-year-old Spring Lake boy were on separate jet skis in Spring Lake, near the Spring Lake Country Club, around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Douglas says the two jet skis collided whle they were traveling southbound on Spring Lake. The lead jet ski turn sharply and did not see the trailing jet ski. The first jet ski turned directly into the path of the second and the two vessels collided throwing both subjects into the water.
One of the unnamed teens was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the other teen suffered cuts and bruises. Douglas said that the youths were both wearing life jackets at the time with safety lanyards attached to them.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
