HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Cellphone use was the cause of a crash in Spring lake Friday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Leonard Rd near River Run in Spring Lake Township to a two car head-on crash. According to Sgt. Brian Buter, Charmaine Curtis, a 61-year-old woman from Spring Lake, was driving westbound on Leonard Rd. when she entered the eastbound lane and side swiped the approaching 42-year-old Brenda Marek, also of Spring Lake.
Marek suffered minor injuries from the crash and was last listed in stable condition at North Ottawa Community Hospital. Deputies determined that Marek’s cell phone use while driving was a factor in the crash. She received a citation for careless driving.
