HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Over 700 people will board buses and head to Washington, DC for the 44th annual March For Life.
Dozens of students from schools in West Michigan will be heading to the nation’s capital, including the three high schools in the Grand Rapids Diocese.
Amanda Lee is a teacher at Muskegon Catholic Central and organized this year’s student march. She tells WHTC News that 18 students grades 9-12 and 2 chaperones will be leaving Thursday morning, January 26, via bus and will return Sunday morning. A youth rally and mass is on the itinerary as well.
Pat Nugent who teaches at West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids has been taking kids to the march for nearly two decades.
Grand Rapids Right to Life’s Laura Alexandria is disappointed by the massive coverage of dozens of Women’s Marches over the weekend, with a message opposite of the March for Life and pro-Lifers. “I do think the pro-life movement isn’t covered as much because in today’s society we are almost counter cultural. We are still fighting for traditional values.”
Last year a group from West Michigan making up several area Catholic schools including Grand Rapids West Catholic and Muskegon Catholic Central, and Parishes were stranded along the Pennsylvania turnpike after the massive storm shut down the road entirely.
The event has been held annually since the Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1972 which legalized abortion.
