HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Park Township residents could see a public transit system as soon as July.
The Macatawa Area Express, or MAX system, already serves the city of Holland, Holland Township and Zeeland. Jerry Hunsburger is Park Township Supervisor and says the study completed by the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council reveals that the best option would be a Reserve-a-Max system.
“We’re gonna to this pilot which would basicially be a demand response, kind of a dial-a-ride is the term a lot of people use. They would call today if they want to make an appointment for a bus to pick them up at their residence tomorrow. A bus would take them within the MAX transit area which if the city of Holland, Holland Charter Township and Zeeland. To the doctor, library, where ever they want to go.”
Hunsburger is mindful that the average age in Park Township continues to grow each year.
“People want to age in place. They don’t want to have to leave their home in Park Township because they love area, but if they get in a situation where for a short term or long term they can’t drive, they want to have some independance. And therein comes public transit.”
All fares and schedules will be the same as what the MAX has already established in other areas.
Park Township Board will vote on the resolution in March 9th.
