HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A preliminary hearing for a 41-year-old Holland man charged in the traffic-related death of a 65-year-old Zeeland woman and the injuring of her 10-year-old grandson has been pushed back.
Holland District Court Judge Brad Knoll approved a defense request to move the date from March 1st to a yet-to-be-determined date in April for Cameron Burrows’ show-cause hearing. He’s facing counts of reckless driving causing death, reckless driving causing serious injury and for being a four-time habitual offender stemming from the January 3rd incident on Business 196 at 104th Avenue. Witnesses claim that Burrows drove his pickup truck through a red light and into the side of Sandra DeBoer’s car, killing her instantly and seriously injuring her grandson who was in the passenger’s seat.
Burrows, who reportedly has had nine license suspensions since 2000, with the most recent coming 14 months ago, as well as two misdemeanor shoplifting convictions on his record, is free on five thousand dollars bond. If convicted of these new charges, he could get up to 30 years in prison, along with fines.
According to District Court staffers, the delay in the preliminary hearing was granted in order for a new unnamed defense attorney to review the case.
