GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A Hudsonville man is in good condition after being rescued from the water in Cedar Lake West in Georgetown Township.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area that is home to subdivisions surrounding the lake at 24th Avenue and Fillmore Street. At around 12:05 p.m. Saturday afternoon, February 19, authorities responded to reports that a 38-year-old man had fallen through the ice while fishing. Unseasonably warm weather made the lake unsafe.
Sgt Bob Ruster says the man fell approximately 150 feet from shore and was hanging onto the edge of the ice with his arms. Ottwaw County Sheriff’s Deputies Dan Fetkenhour and Jim Scholma were first on the scene and used their department issues throw lines to reach the victim and pull him out of the hole in the ice and then back to shore.
The victim was transported to Spectrum Hospital by AMR ambulance and treated for hypothermia then released.
