HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – An effort to get people to use less energy and spend more time outdoors has earned the City of Holland an award.
The city was given the award for “Outstanding Achievement in Residential Marketing and Customer Engagement” from the National Association of Energy Services Professionals. An effort that started in the summer of 2016 with a marketing campaign called “Holland Unplugged” was created in partnership with the City of Holland, Holland Board of Public Works (HBPW) and the local marketing agency, The Image Group.
The Georgetown University Energy Prize marketing campaign was aimed at getting residents outside and participating in activities that do not require them to use energy at home. Facebook and the website hollandenergyprize.com gave residents a place to share how they save energy. Blog posts from grilling recipes to backyard games were shared. Movies in the Park over the summer encouraged residents to turn off their air and come outside in the evening. More than 1200 residents attended.
The City of Holland and Holland BPW accepted the award at a luncheon ceremony in Orlando, Florida.
