SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – Should the City of Saugatuck get into the public marina business?
Such a question could be considered by City Council after last month’s proposal by the owners of Tower Marine in Douglas to transfer ownership of their waterfront properties to the Lakeshore community. No reason was given in the January 12th letter by Matt and RJ Peterson for this request. In a letter that is expected to be “accepted for information” during tonight’s Council business meeting, attorney Jeffrey Sluggett pointed out some of the legalities that need to be addressed by such a move, along with what should be done next. No action is expected to be taken during tonight’s meeting.
Also during tonight’s meeting, Council will hear a presentation from the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society about efforts to have the History Center be placed in the National Register of Historic Places. A 1.3 million-dollar restoration of “The Old Schoolhouse” has enabled the Civil War-era building to be again used by the community. The Pump House Museum was placed on this register a year ago.
