HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a complaint of multiple sex crimes.
The crimes may have occurred within the last month in the Jamestown area in the 4000 block of Springmist Drive and also in the Hudsonville area.
Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began when a concerned parent approached a Sheriff’s Deputy and expressed her concerns involving the suspects concerning behavior. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office soon became involved and executed search warrants on several electronic devices related to this case.
Through the course of this investigation it appears the married couple, Anuj and Leslie Chopra, were soliciting minors for sexual acts. Investigators don’t believe at this time that sexual acts were completed against the minors who have been identified to authorities.
Anuj Chopra, 41, is charged with the State of Michigan law violation of Human Trafficking for trying to entice two 16 year olds to engage in sexual activities for money.
42-year-old Leslie Chopra is charged with Distributing Sexually Explicit Materials to Minors and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. The charges stem from her communications with a 16 year old, and attempting to entice him into sexual acts with her.
The accused couple was acquainted with the victims through the couple’s 16 year old daughter. The charged couple surrendered to authorities Wednesday, February 8 and were released on bond. Further court proceedings are being scheduled at this point.
