CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An 82-year-old Nunica man died last evening while apparently attempting to pull his vehicle out of his driveway onto a roadway.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cal Keuning, Alfred Smith pulled out into the path of Bobby Jewett’s vehicle that was northbound on 112th Avenue near South Street around 5:30 PM and was struck broadside. Rescue workers had to extricate Smith from his vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office. Jewett, a 44-year-old Muskegon man, was not hurt.
Keuning said that both drivers were buckled up, but gave no other details as to the circumstances surrounding the crash, which remains under investigation.
