GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 74-year-old Grand Haven man was injured after failing to yield for another car.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Brian Buter, deputies were dispatched to Mercury Dr. and Groesbeck St. in Grand Haven just before 3 p.m. today. The crash involved 74-year-old James Candela and 30-year-old Christopher Murray of Grand Haven.
The investigation shows that Candela had stopped a stop sign on Groesbeck St. at Mercury Dr., but then was hit by Murray when trying to make a turn.
Candela was stuck inside of his vehicle for a short time after the crash, but was extricated by Ottawa County Sheriff deputies, Grand Haven Twp. Fire Department and North Ottawa Paramedics.
Candela was the only person involved in the crash that received injuries and was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. After the accident, Candela was cited for failure to yield
