ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Holland residents were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash east of Zeeland on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, 26-year-old Kai Lacateci of Holland was driving his pickup truck westbound on I-196 near the 72nd Avenue overpass when he came up upon the minivan of 61-year-old James Coleman ahead of him too quickly to stop. The rear-end collision caused the Coleman vehicle to veer off of the roadway, striking a tree and a sign, before coming to rest at the bottom of a ditch. Coleman and his passenger, 63-year-old Linda Lockett, were taken to an undisclosed hospital in stable condition for treatment of non-life threatening injuries; Lacateci was not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
