COMSTOCK PARK, MI (WHTC) – In an effort to raise awareness about veteran suicide, a group of Veterans are planning to start a 92-mile march Thursday morning, April 27.
The Veterans will walk from Comstock Park to Cadillac along the White Pine Trail between Thursday and Sunday, April 30 for an event called “No Veteran Left Behind – 92 for 22.”
The 22 in the title refers to the 22 veterans that commit suicide every day. The group is also collecting donations online using a GoFundMe page that will be given to a nonprofit organization called Help for Our Disabled Troops. “Help for Our Disabled Troops (HFODT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that adapts homes for injured Veterans as well as helping with therapeutic accommodations. Most of these Veterans have sustained both visible and invisible injuries. The services (HFODT) provide, help restore some of the freedom and independence they have sacrificed defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives.
The vets will be making stops overnight along the way. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
