HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Three organizations in Holland are being recognized in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings contest.
The contest is designed to encourage and recognize energy efficient practices among building owners and operators. Since the Battle’s inception, competitors have reduced 17,051.4 metric tons of equivalent carbon dioxide (CO2e), which is comparable to taking 3,602 vehicles off the road for a year.
In the Education category, Holland Public West came in second place with an energy savings of 16.81 percent. Jason MacKay is Director of Facilities and says resolving an issue with the air handler motors helped them reach second place.
In the Manufacturing/Industrial category, Coastal Container came in first place with an energy savings of 16.96%. It’s the firs time the packaging company entered the competition. The company used the consulting firm Midwest Energy Group to help manage energy use.
In the Warehouse/Distribution Category is was Yacht Basin Marina that came in second place with 9.15% energy savings. The marina’s building 2 decreased energy by a series of small steps from scheduling regular heating equipment maintanance, making sure large doors were opened less and entry doors were not left propped open.
Winners were honored during the 2017 Michigan Energy Summit last week.
The Energy Summit brings together leading building owners & operators from across the state in a peer-to-peer learning platform where attendees hear how Michigan companies are successfully reducing their energy costs while maintaining occupant comfort and increasing productivity.
