HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Ottawa County is in first place out of 82 counties as the best in Michigan for child well-being according to the annual Kids Count Report.
The annual Kids Count report was released Monday. It analyzes children’s quality of life across the state in the areas of education, economic security, family and community, and health.
Last year Ottawa County came in second place. The report says the amount of children living in poverty in Ottawa County was 9.2 percent in 2015 and the state average in 22.2 percent. Graduation rates also improved between 2008 and 2015.
Allegan County is at number 18 and falls under Ottawa County at number two for child well-being.
Our neighbors to the north, Muskegon County moved up ten spots from last year, from 80th place to 70th place.
